The Young Musicians Course (YMC) is founded on the belief that every child loves music. Children participate in activities that teach basic musical skills and encourage independence, creativity and self-expression. The course appeals to the imagination of a young mind and becomes an integral part of your child’s growth. For beginning musicians ages 6-8, class activities include ear training, piano repertoire, keyboard harmony, music theory, exposure to arranging, singing, ensemble playing, and improvisation.

Junior Music Course (JMC) is a program for children beginning at ages 4 or 5 that provides an incomparable foundation for future musical study on any instrument. Children experience singing, music reading and writing, playing the piano, ear training, and creating music.

Curriculum: The in-class musical experiences nurture creativity and help instill the basis for playing and expression through feeling and understanding music.

Lessons include:
• Hearing - Listening to wonderful music helps children to develop emotional sensitivity, an ear for music and to feel and express music in time rhythmically
• Singing - Children love to sing! Singing develops self expression, correct tempo,1, pitch and understanding of note names
• Playing - Performing songs introduces children to the joy of expressing music by themselves. Playing also helps students to become familiar with the five-line staff, the piano keyboard and performing music with both hands
• Creating - Junior Music Course experiences cultivate children’s musical creativity and sense of harmony

Attendance:

Students are expected to attend class for the full semester. Consistent attendance, and keeping up with the home assignment will aid in musical success. Some fluctuations in interest are perfectly normal and should not signal the end of musical training for your child. Your teacher will be able to address any concerns about your child’s progress. Your teacher will also advise you about enrollment in the next level of the course.

There is no reduction in tuition for missed lessons. Missed lessons can sometimes be made up by attending a class of the same level with another teacher. This is subject to availability and at the teacher’s discretion.
